Surface Texture Peak density and Peak curvature

I need to calculate the peak density of a 3D surface. The formula is simple: #of peaks/ Area. The area is easy to calculate but how can i count the number of peaks? The peak curvature is a bit more complicated and have no idea how to calculate so I will leave the equation below. Also an estimate of the local gradient vector is provided. Any idea is welcomed
