Help with shannon fano encoding

Hello, i have being trying to implement a shano fano algo in matlab, but i came with one problem that i couldnt find an answer too

after getting Sh-F codes for each of my Symobs, how do i save them ? do i save them as decimal values on a matrix ? do i save them as strings ? if i save them as decimal values, the size of my new files stays the same as the old, so how should i save them ?
