IOptimizing with relative constraints

I'm trying to optimize inputs to a Simulink model. The input vector is a set of times that must be increasing monotonically. fminsearch usually works Ok, but sometimes its trial values violate this constraint, so the sim crashes.

How can I keep this constraint under control? Alternatively, how can I force the optimizer to take smaller steps?
