I've got a number of old servers running Matlab R2013b on them, I'm in the process of updating the servers to new servers and reinstalling Matlab. We arent doing anything overly strenuous with the Matlab, 2013b works for what we need dont see a reason to buy new licenses so I'm sticking with what I've got. I went into my license management on the mathworks webpage and da-activated a license, then re-activated and selected Linux, R2013b, and entered the hostid in. My understanding is the hostid is, in my case, the MAC address for my eno1 adapter. I entered this MAC address in and built the new license.lic file. I copied the file over to the linux server (Running RHEL 7.9) and attempted to activate Matlab offline using the license.lic file. However I get a:
"This license file appears to have been generated for a different computer. Either: - Go back and activate automatically using the Internet. - Or, if you do not have a license file for this computer, select the option indicating you do not have a license file. We will help you with the next steps"
popup.
I can look into the license file and see the line HOSTID=MATLAB_HOSTID=0010E0F2D526:####### (the ##### are the license id) and I can compare that to my eno1 adapter
eno1: flags=4163<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
inet 10.18.11.108 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 10.18.11.255
ether 00:10:e0:f2:d5:26 txqueuelen 1000 (Ethernet)
So my eno1 MAC matches my license.lic file but i cannot activate matlab

For anyone who stumbles upon this sometime down the road, the answer is that apparently Matlab 2013b requires a eth0 adapter MAC address. In Redhat 7 eth0 is named eno1 and if you use eno1's MAC address it does not work. So, if you're running Redhat 7 and you want to license a 2013b or earlier version of matlab you'll have to rename your adapters so that eno1 is eth0.
