how to run or call a php or java based function from matlab ?

i am involved in some image based project, where i want a php or java based app to generate some images as it output, and that images i have to get as input into matlab.... is there anyway to call such function....

plz some one help me find a solution to call a php or java function from matlab.... and return the output back to matlab for further processing....
