Standalone application deployment - Mac install fails

I have compiled a standalone application in Maltab 2013b on Mac and Windows. Windows works fine on all levels of testing/install. When I run the Mac forTesting version my application runs, but when I try to install it I enter my admin password when prompted then I get an message box with the title "Corrupted Installer" and the message "Installer does not have data necessary to run"

I have not found a solution to this problem. You can see below the output onto the system console - this is beyond my experience, but to me it hints at kerberos/authentication problems (fPermittedFrontASNs). I am using OSX 10.8.5 and have an administrator account. I have also set security to "Allow applications downloaded From: Anywhere" and tried running the installer with right-click -> Open.

I'm getting the same error in roughly the same situation (MATLAB_R2016b, trying to run on Macbook Pro with OS X 10.11.6). Are there no clues for this?
