How to find the mean of data contained in a column of a table?

i want the mean of the values stored in a column of a table. how can i do that?
For example :
1 11
2 22
3 33
4 44
5 55
is the column data. how to find mean of this both columns and store them in a variable.

b=mean(a)
b =
