When performing color analysis, Electrical Engineers are frequently using a Vector-scope - usually an analogue device that measures the image color (see Wiki for some details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vectorscope ). This function allows the user to present a 2D or a 3D plot of the La*b image data.
