Easy Substitution (variable)

Actually this may be a really easy one, but I don't know what to search for, so here I just ask: I've got the equation

delta =
 
((dv^2*v^2)/(v^2 - w^2) + (dw^2*w^2)/(v^2 - w^2))^(1/2)

Now I assigned values to each variable

v = 3.83;

etc. But if I now type in "delta" in command window, matlab shows the equation again even if I assigned values. How to compute it directly?
