Setting up desktop computer for remote computing

I have two computers - a desktop computer and a laptop. My laptop is not powerful enough to efficiently run many of the computations that I want to run, and I would like to be able to remotely run them on my desktop. My current strategy has been to use a remote desktop application to connect to the desktop and run all my simulations through that, but it isn't the most elegant. I was wondering if there was any way to remotely connect to my desktop through MATLAB, so that I could locally run MATLAB on my laptop but have all the computations done through the desktop (perhaps by setting up a cluster with the parallel computing toolbox, but I'm still not sure if this is possible).

To do that, you'll need to have a MATLAB Parallel Server license. If you have it, you can install the MATLAB Job Scheduler on your desktop machine: you can either follow this video that walks you through the process or follow the documentation.

Note that MATLAB Parallel Server can be used with schedulers other than MATLAB Job Scheduler! In your case, however, MATLAB Job Scheduler seems to me to be the best solution.
