maximum over three dimensional array

I have some code in which I have to find the maximum of certain dimensions of a multidimensional matrix nk x nkp x nz ...

In fact I needed to find the maximum over nkp dimension to obtain a matrix of optimal values of nk x nz.

So far I was looping over nz but I was wondering if it can be done without looping

Max along columns and then squeeze.

Thanks. I tried that before but it was not working because I did not change the dimensions of the arrays
