Installation failure on Ubuntu 12

Hi, I was trying to install Matlab 2011b on my ubuntu 12, but it failed. Would anyone like to help? i am having same problem of installing matlab R2012B in ubuntu 14.04 ,i have extracted the matlab in ubuntu only using its archive manager, can anyone help me.
