ERR_TIMED_OUT (-7)

I have installed the Trial Package of MATLAB R2018b successfully. When executing matlab I get the error message:

Failed to load URL https://login.mathworks.com/embedded-login/login.html?locale=en_US with error ERR_TIMED_OUT (-7).

This looks like a proxy problem. Which environment variable does matlab use for proxy settings? Alternativly, could I add proxy information to the config file matlab.settings manually?

The reason was a firewall blocking access to {login,licensing}.mathworks.com - changing the firewall settings solved the problem.

The firewall settings have been modified by our IT department allowing access to the machines mentioned above on ports 80 and 443 for my machine.
