Simulink S-Function builder "error using fopen"

When I try to build a simple Simulink model containing the S-Function builder block, the block won't build providing the following error message:
Error using fopen
The file name contains characters that are not contained in the filesystem encoding.
Certain operations may not work as expected.
This even happens with the simple example provided by Matlab:
open_system([docroot,'/toolbox/simulink/sfg/examples/sfbuilder_example']);
This happens in Matlab R2017a, R2017b and R2018a. I've one other guy that got the same issue https://nl.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/394552-s-function-builder-fails-compilation-diagnostics-gives-error-using-fopen, which was solved by using an R2017b instead of R2018a.
Can anyone suggest a solution? Any help is greatly appreciated.
