So go here:
And in the upper right corner is a link "Contact Sales". Fill out the form and wait. You will be contacted from MathWorks.

Yes, it can certainly be done.
Note, however, that you will have to pay the "Commercial" price.
There are only 3 different MATLAB pricing levels: Student Version (requires that you be a student at a degree granting institution); Academic (available to degree granting institutions); and "Commercial" (everyone else.)
There is no price step for "Professional" nor "Learner" (not in a degree program) nor "Unemployed" nor "Retired". Also nothing like "pay as you go" for contractors who might not have the investment money up-front.
The _only_ alternative I know of, is to win one of the MATLAB Contests.
