saving data from serial port communication

i have a problem with serial communication the problem is that i m using arduino to get sound with microphone i m recieving into the matlab but i cant save it as a vector
s = serial('COM4');
fopen(s)
record(s,'on')
fprintf(s,'*IDN?')
out = fscanf(s);
fclose(s)
this part of my program
could you help me ?
