Given N = 5, Vref(1) = 16 and Vin = 32 how would you go about solving the above? Are nested for loops needed? If Vin > Vref d(i)=1 and if Vin < Vref d(i) = 0.

How does Vin and k work together?
Could you confirm that d(i-1) is a function applied to i-1, not a value d multiplied by i-1 ?

Here are some similar c programs to find the the sum of Arithmetic progression , geometric progression and harmonic progression sum . Although it is a C program but logic remains the same. You can use same looping mechanism to to find sum of your series mentioned above. Hope it helps.

Well I dont see Vin in the posted function at all.
As for your question regarding the nested for loops. No, they are not needed here as you have only one changing variable that is "i". Even if d is function you could calculate its value by writing a simple function in matlab.
