human body type detection

hi, im currently doing a project on body type detection (somatotyping) based on an image by using sheldon's trunk index method. The most important step is that i need to calculate the area of 2 regions: body and leg. Right now i have difficulties in separating those parts as my program detects the whole body as one object. Can anyone help me please.
