Input object for model reference

Hi everyone, I'm trying to convert our existing large Simulink mdl into smaller number of Simulink mdls through Model Reference blocks. However, I'm hitting a road bump.
Currently, the large mdl has components and subcomponents under them and hence a tree structure. The inputs to the system are fed by also a tree structure of class objects. Masks allows us to segregate the components and allows a neat tight coupling between the Simulink block and input tree structure.
Unfortunately, I've just learnt that Model Reference can't take objects/structures as model arguements. Am I right or completely wrong with this statement?
Thanks.
