While implementing an image classification system using 2D HMM, what are the initial parameters for training images ?

I know this is not a MatLab specific question, but I am following this paper and I wish to know how to get the initial parameters like Pi,A and B for solving problems 1 and 3 of HMM in this context. Any insight would be helpful.
