"mat files" &nbsp are that Matlabs mat-files?
"sigma" looks like string. However, &nbsp find &nbsp is not the best wat to search for strings.
Provide a small example!

I replace "mat files" by "m-files" in the question. mat-file is a different type of file (store data).

Hi Yonatan,
Ctrl+Shift+f would open a 'Find Files' window. In that, you can search the parameter, in this case, 'sigma' in the 'Find files containing text' field. It would also give you the line numbers where that string appears in the files.
You can also open the 'Find Files' window by navigating to 'Find Files' under the home tab, or the menu Edit -> Find files depending on which version of MATLAB you are using.
Hope this answers your query.
Cheers!
Abhiram.
