Web/urlread proxy issue

Our system at work uses an auto proxy so I put in the correct settings under preferences. Using the web interface, I can see any website without an issue (mathworks.com, for example). When I try to use urlread, it always returns the following error:

Error using urlreadwrite (line 97)
Error downloading URL. Your network connection may be down or your proxy
settings improperly configured.

Error in urlwrite (line 38)
[f,status] =
urlreadwrite(mfilename,catchErrors,url,filename,varargin{:});

Does anyone know why I can connect with web but not urlread/urlwrite? I'm using MATLAB 2014a.
