Pair a Bluetooth Device and Retrieve the Bluetooth Device Address

You can pair the Bluetooth® device to your host computer and retrieve the Bluetooth device address or serial port based on your operating system. Instrument Control Toolbox software is required to connect to your Arduino® hardware using an HC-05 or HC-06 Bluetooth module. Before you pair, make sure that the Bluetooth device is connected to the Arduino board and is powered properly.

Windows

Pair Bluetooth Device

  1. Click Start > Control Panel to open the control panel.

    Note

    If you are using a Windows® 10 laptop, make sure you have Bluetooth turned on. To turn on Bluetooth, go to Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth, and click On.

  2. Click Add a device under Hardware and Sound section.

  3. Select the Bluetooth device that you want to pair, and click Next.

  4. Select Enter the device’s pairing code, and enter 1234, and click Next.

  5. Wait for Windows to successfully install the necessary files for your Bluetooth device.

Retrieve Bluetooth Address

Find the Bluetooth Address for HC-05 and HC-06

  1. Under Control Panel, open the Devices and Printers section.

  2. Right-click on the HC-05 or HC-06 Bluetooth device, and select Properties.

  3. Click the Hardware menu, and then click Properties.

  4. Click the Details menu, and then select the Property as Bluetooth Device Address. The Value is the Bluetooth address of the device.

  5. Enter the Bluetooth device address on the arduinosetup interface and click Next to configure the device.

Find the Bluetooth Serial Port for Adafruit Bluefruit EZ-Link

  1. Under Control Panel, open the Devices and Printers section.

  2. Right-click on the Adafruit® EZ-Link Bluetooth device, and select Properties.

  3. Click the Hardware menu to see the COM port number that Adafruit Bluefruit EZ-Link uses.

  4. Select the COM port number from the Hardware menu on the arduinosetup interface, and click Next. If you don’t see the port on the drop-down list, click Refresh.





Mac

Pair Bluetooth Device

  1. Turn on Bluetooth.

  2. In the Bluetooth menu, click Open Bluetooth Preferences.

  3. Mac immediately starts scanning for Bluetooth devices. You see the Bluetooth address of your device first, and then eventually it resolves into the Bluetooth device name. Select the Bluetooth device that you want to pair, and click Pair.

    If you see the Pairing failed message, click Options and enter the pairing code as 1234.

    Tip

    If you are unable to pair with the Bluetooth device, follow these steps:

    • Turn Bluetooth off and on again, and reconnect your Bluetooth device.

    • Disconnect all USB devices, and shut down the system.

    • After two minutes reboot the system, and reconnect all of your USB devices. Then try to reconnect your Bluetooth device.

Retrieve Bluetooth Address

Find the Bluetooth Serial Port for Adafruit Bluefruit EZ-Link

  1. Open Terminal, and type ls /dev/cu.*.

  2. Find the serial port number associated with the Adafruit Bluefruit EZ-Link that appears in the format /dev/cu.AdafruitEZLinkxxxx-SPP.

  3. On the arduinosetup interface, select the serial port number that you saw on the Terminal, and click Next. If you don’t see the port on the drop-down list, click Refresh.

Find the Bluetooth Address for HC-05 and HC-06

  1. Before your pair HC-05 and HC-06 Bluetooth devices to your Mac, right-click on Pair under Open Bluetooth Preferences in the Bluetooth menu. You see the Bluetooth address of your device.

  2. Enter the Bluetooth device address without dashes as an hexadecimal string on the arduinosetup interface, and click Next to configure the device.
