Configure Virtual Vehicle Components

Use the Data and Calibration pane to configure the virtual vehicle body and frame, tires, brakes, powertrain, driver, and environment. The available options depend on the virtual vehicle Powertrain architecture and Model template parameter settings.

Virtual Vehicle Composer app Data and Calibration pane

Body and Frame

Use the Body and Frame parameter to select the body dynamics and mass properties. The available options depend on the virtual vehicle Setup > Vehicle dynamics parameter.

For this example, set Body and Frame to Vehicle Body 3DOF Longitudinal. Use the default parameter values.

Tires and Brakes

Use the Front Tire and Wheel, Rear Tire and Wheel, and Brake System options to specify the tire and brake parameters.

  1. Set Front Tire and Wheel to MF Tires Longitudinal Front.

    • On the Front Tire Data tab:

      • Set tire inertia PlntWhlInertiaFrnt to 1.0 kg·m²

      • Set tire pressure PlntWhlPrsFrnt to 230000 Pa

  2. Set Rear Tire and Wheel to MF Tires Longitudinal Rear.

    • On the Rear Tire Data tab:

      • Set tire inertia PlntWhlInertiaRear to 1.0 kg·m²

      • Set tire pressure PlntWhlPrsRear to 230000 Pa

  3. Set Front Brake Type to Disc.

    • Modify the front brake friction material properties:

      • Set static friction coefficient PlntBrkStcFricCffFrnt to 0.40

      • Set kinetic friction coefficient PlntBrkKinFricCffFrnt to 0.30

  4. Set Rear Brake Type to Disc.

    • Modify the rear brake friction material properties:

      • Set static friction coefficient PlntBrkStcFricCffRear to 0.40

      • Set kinetic friction coefficient PlntBrkKinFricCffRear to 0.30

Powertrain

On the Powertrain tab, set parameters for the powertrain systems such as the engine, electric motor, transmission, drivetrain, differential system, and electrical system for your virtual vehicle. The available options depend on the virtual vehicle Powertrain architecture and Model template parameter settings.

For this example, under Powertrain:

  1. Under Power Generation:

    • Use the default values for these DC-DC Converter parameters:

      • PlntDCDCEff — Overall DC to DC converter efficiency

      • PlntDCDCLossTbl — Corresponding losses

    • Click Energy Storage, then select Mapped Battery (Electric Vehicle 1EM). Use the default values for these parameters:

      • PlntBattOpenCirctVolt — Open circuit voltage values, per cell

      • PlntBattVoltSocBpt — Battery SOC breakpoints for voltage table

    • Click Electric Machine 1 and select Electric Vehicle 1EM - Simple Motor. Use the default values for these motor parameters:

      • PlntEM1Spd — Motor speed breakpoints for maximum torque

      • PlntEM1Trq — Maximum torque values

  2. Set Drivetrain to Front Wheel Drive.

  3. Set Drivetrain > Front Differential System to Open Differential.

Environment

On the Environment tab, set the environment parameters. Set Environment to Ambient Conditions.

  • Modify these environmental parameters:

    • Set ambient air absolute pressure EnvAbsPrs to 95000 Pa

    • Set ambient air absolute temperature EnvAirTemp to 305 kelvins
