FIPER provides a product development environment that is easily distributed across multiple platforms and exploits a variety of web-based technologies. This product development paradigm enables global communication of information and collaboration of tools, organizations and business units. By automating non-creative tasks in the product design and analysis cycle, companies can drastically reduce costs and decrease design cycle time. FIPER enables product and development engineers to develop robust and reliable product designs that are in pursuit of Six Sigma quality goals.

FIPER includes an interface to MATLAB that enables users to take advantage of the computational and visualization capabilities in MATLAB as part of a larger process implemented in a FIPER model. In the FIPER model, users can identify the data to transfer to MATLAB and define the specific analysis routines to run during model execution. At runtime, FIPER uses the MATLAB engine capability to enable the interface and can launch and manage several MATLAB instances at once. FIPER runs Simulink from within MATLAB scripts or functions that are specified within FIPER's MATLAB component. FIPER passes parameter values to and from Simulink via MATLAB.
