how eig() function works for finding eigen values of an image?

Dear Sir,

          I am working with feature extraction for an image,where I was suggested to use Eigon vectors.In matlab ,I found an inbuilt function eig(),which calculates the eigen vectors.But I want to know how it calculates the eigen value and eigen vectors.

Refer below link & expand 'Tips' section, you will find some information about the algorithm used.

Also search in matlab installation, where this function must be defined in some .m file to get idea about the implementation.
