Why do I get "You are not permitted to use this license" when trying to access my University license?

When I try to link my MathWorks Account to a license, or install and activate MATLAB, I see the message "You are not permitted to use this license" after inputting my university log-in credentials.

This message is shown when your university has not listed you as a valid user within the university's identity management system.

If you left the university

You are no longer permitted to use the university's license after you left but you can continue to use your MathWorks account by changing the email address associated with the account. Contact the MathWorks customer support to do so.

If you think the message is shown by error

You can find out what attribute values are being applied to your user profile on your university's side by performing the test described below.
Attribute Test
When you are on the page that says “Not Permitted”, copy and paste the link below into the same browser.
The output should look like this, for example:

Next Steps
  1. Navigate to the Attributes section and look for affiliation.
  2. You should see at least one of the 5 required values, faculty/staff/student/employee/member with "@your-university.edu" for the affiliation attribute.
If "affiliation" is missing or you don't see one of the required values displayed, contact your University IT department with this information so they can map your account with one of the required values needed to access the MATLAB License.
