Since my new laptop does not have a DVD reader, yet I own a MATLAB DVD, is there any way to use the provided license with a legal download of the software ( R2010b )? Thank you in advance,Alexander Hornung

Assuming your machine has no internet connection: You could create an ISO image from that DVD on a different machine (or have someone download the ISO for you).
Assuming your machine has internet connection: I do not need the DVD in the first place. Depending on how your IT has set up license access, you can log into your MathWorks Account. In the license center, there is a download button and there you can also download earlier releases.
