How can I update a cell value in a GUIDE table by using a cell with different options from a choice list menu inside the same table?

In a table in Guide: I want to be able to choose a rock(geology) type from the choice list in my first column and automatically update columns 2,3 and 4 for the same row where I have chosen a rock type with a specific constant according to the rock value chosen in the choice list. I want to be able to do this for n rows in the first column. Please see the image I attached.

Alfonso - try using the CellEditCallback for your uitable so that you can respond to the changes in the rock type. In GUIDE, select your uitable and view the CallEditCallback so that it appears in your m file. When you change the rock type, this callback will fire and the eventdata will have the information telling you what the indices of the uitable element that was manipulated (so you will only care about those elements in the first column), what the previous data was and what the new data is. With that you should be able to update the row (obtained from eventdata.indices).

Thank you Geoff. So far I was able to check what you just said about looking in the workspace to see the eventdata.indices. I was able to see the previous data and the new data. two more questions. How can I manipulate that data if the new data is a string?, Do I have to care to program the indices [1,etc..]? I want to be able to make a switch or if statement with that new data and then update the specified rows according to that choice.

Alfonso - what type of manipulation do you mean? If the new data were a string (and I think that in most cases it will be treated as such) then what would you want to do with it.

As for the indices, they are set based on the cell that is being updated so you don't have to program anything besides extracting the row and column from this element.

Geoff - So, I want to be able to get the user`s choice from the choice list and then set the specific cells with values according to his choice. Let`s say, The user chooses sedimentary rock as choice from the choice list that I created in the table property inspector, (igneous, sedimentary and metamorfic) are three different options in cell [1,1],then in cells [1,2],[1,3] and [1,4] I want to display automatically 0.3(which is a porosity value specific for sedimentary rocks), 0.4(permeability) and 1.8 (density) respectively. This these three values would be different I would pick the option (igneous). Sorry for the confusion and thanks for the help Geoff.

Geoff - I know how to get values from an edit box or a slider or a pop up menu and then set up them on edit boxes etc... Somehow using get and set on a uitable is hard because when using an if statement to do something according with the option the user chooses I get errors with conversions of cell to string or to double.

Alfonso - you have to get the all of the data that is in the table and then set the particular row elements to their new values. You then set uitable with this new data. Please copy and paste the code that you are using to update a single row so that we can see what the problem may be.

Hello Geoff. I was finally able to use and modify the elements of a cell within a uitable in Guide. All I had to do was access each element of the cell with { }. Then using a switch statement to check the selection made by the user in the choice list that I had created through the table property editor of the uitable1. Thanks for trying to help.
