I am helping my coworker, Pallav, setup a Linux machine to compile his MATLAB code. He has licensed the compiler and compiler sdk. I was able to install and activate MATLAB using these instructions. When I try to launch matlab (/usr/local/MATLAB/R2015b/bin/matlab), it simply prints the banner and then hangs. I have to terminate the process. What is the best way to troubleshoot this?

I installed on CentOS 7 and I get the same problem. It says the installation is successful, but matlab does not start.

I did the same installation procedure with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and it does not hang.
It would be cool to understand what is wrong and to get it working on CentOS or Fedora.

Please note that Fedora 22 is not officially supported Operating Systems for those MATLAB releases.
However, it will still run on most popular distributions of Linux, provided it is a full desktop installation of the distribution. MATLAB is not supported on minimal or server distributions. A minimal installation may not contain all libraries that MATLAB requires.
You may refer to the following system requirements of R2024a MATLAB to know which distributions are supported:
