How to activate a license and place it at specified location?

I need to use Matlab installed at a super-computer center with the license from my university. GUI for Matlab Activation Center attempts to write a license file to a system directory closed for writing to users. How can I save a license file to my home directory, preferably from unix command line, without installing my own copy of Matlab?

The MATLAB activation center allows a very simplified way of installing the license file to a default location as described in this link .

However, you can go online to the license center and manually download the license file and place it in your preferred location.
