How to display strings on xpc target (Simulink 2014)?

How can I display a string e.g. 'no error' in a target scope or in the target log box at the bottem right?

Scopes do not support strings since scopes display Simulink signal values which are always numeric. PRINTFs in S-Functions appear in the log box. This is resource intensive (as is the case with writing to display in any situation) and should not be used too frequetly.
