Error in using string columns in KSVD

Hi, i am using matlab dataset 'hospital'. It also has string fields. when i try to use this dataset it gives an error when it tries to normalize the dictionary. Can anyone help in that? what kind of datatype ksvd supports? Thanks for your comments..
Note: it works well with dataset which only include numbers!

Dictionary = Dictionary*diag(1./sqrt(sum(Dictionary.*Dictionary))); Dictionary = Dictionary.*repmat(sign(Dictionary(1,:)),size(Dictionary,1),1); % multiply in the sign of the first element. totalErr = zeros(1,param.numIteration); Error is in this line.. and it is "Undefined function 'times' for input arguments of type 'dataset'." thanks for reading!!
