Parallel Processing

I am trying to read 8000 files in a for-loop. Is there any way that I can read the files in parallel to take advantage of a two quad-core processors.

You could try a parfor loop: http://www.mathworks.com/help/toolbox/distcomp/brjvpu3-1.html#brjvpwa and http://www.mathworks.com/help/techdoc/ref/parfor.html

I believe you can get a trial version of the Parallel Computing toolbox.
