Description

Use the Execution method parameter to specify how generated code is deployed and executed on the selected STM32N6xx- or STM32H7RSxx-based hardware board.

Settings

Internal SRAM | Internal flash | Load and run (LRUN) from external memory

Select one of the option:

  • Internal SRAM — Available only when Hardware board is set to STM32N6xx Based. This is the default setting for STM32N6xx boards. This option loads the generated ELF file directly into internal SRAM and executes it from SRAM. During deployment, the ST-LINK GDB server downloads the ELF file to SRAM. Configure all peripherals in STM32CubeMX in the FSBL context.

  • Internal flash — Available only when Hardware board is set to STM32H7RSxx Based. This is the default setting for STM32H7RSxx boards. This option loads and executes code directly from the 64 KB internal boot flash memory. Configure all peripherals in STM32CubeMX in the Boot context. Use this option when the application fits within the available internal flash memory.

  • Load and run (LRUN) from external memory — Loads code into external flash memory connected through the XSPI interface and executes it from internal SRAM. During execution, the behaviour depends on the selected hardware board:

    • STM32N6xx boards – The code is copied from external flash to internal SRAM and runs at full speed. Configure model-level peripherals in the Application context. Configure the boot path components (XSPIM, XSPI2, and EXTMEM_MANAGER) in the FSBL context. Use this option for production deployments that must persist across power cycles.

    • STM32H7RSxx boards – The code is copied from external flash to internal SRAM for high-performance execution. Configure all peripherals in the Application context. Use this option when the application exceeds the available internal flash capacity.
