MathWorks Supports ROBOTRADER Competition by Making MATLAB Available to All Participants

Sponsorship highlights company’s commitment to giving students hands-on experiences that enrich their education and help prepare them for professional positions

Madrid, Spain - (2 Mar 2015)

MathWorks today announced its participation as a gold sponsor of the 5th edition of the ROBOTRADER Competition, an annual national trading competition pioneered and hosted by Madrid Polytechnic University. As part of the sponsorship, MathWorks will make MATLAB available to all participating students. The company's commitment to this competition is part of its mission to advance engineering education worldwide by providing students with hands-on learning experiences inside and outside the classroom and, ultimately, preparing them for their future careers.

The ROBOTRADER Championship is an international university competition focused on algorithmic trading systems. Participating students are tasked with developing a robust, measurable real-time trading strategy for the sale of financial markets (futures, options, FOREX, and Stock). The two-month competition begins on April 1 with a duration of two months. Results will be monitored throughout the competition via the ROBOTRADER platform, with the winner being awarded the ROBOTRADER ceremony prize at the Madrid Stock Exchange Palace in June.

MathWorks will offer all participants access to MATLAB, a high-level programming language and interactive environment for numerical computing and visualization. The company will also host a talk before the competition and will provide material and documentation to assist participants with using MATLAB in the competition.

"Student competitions, in combination with the concept of hands-on (practical use) MATLAB and Simulink, serve quality experience to students when faced with solving real engineering problems," says Juan Nasarre, director of MathWorks in Spain and Portugal. "Through sponsorship of such contests worldwide, MathWorks aims to help students acquire the knowledge and technical skills that industry and enterprise demand today."
