MathWorks IEC Certification Kit Compliant with ISO 26262 2nd Edition

Enables use of Model-Based Design for latest certification standard

Natick, Massachusetts, United States - (1 Nov 2018)

MathWorks today announced that TÜV SÜD certified MathWorks code generation and verification products are compliant with the second edition of the draft ISO 26262 functional safety standard. Automotive engineers developing high-integrity embedded systems can continue using Simulink and Polyspace products certified in IEC Certification Kit for the next generation of functional safety designs and development.

ISO 26262 is the international automotive standard for the development of safety-related systems in road vehicles. The release of the second edition of this standard is planned for 2018, and the draft, ISO/DIS 26262-8, does not significantly affect usage and qualification of code generation and verification tools. This allows engineering teams to continue using IEC Certification Kit and Model-Based Design to meet certification requirements.

“As more data and electronics make their way into automobiles, motorcycles, and related vehicles, satisfying emerging functional safety standards becomes increasingly important when developing high-integrity systems,” said Tom Erkkinen, embedded application and certification manager, MathWorks. “Although the second edition of ISO 26262 may introduce new concepts and challenges, today’s announcement reduces project risk and increases confidence that managers can continue to rely on their production-proven workflows based on Simulink and Embedded Coder for next-generation vehicles that require the latest ISO 26262 certification.”

IEC Certification Kit provides ISO 26262 tool qualification and classification work products and test suites as well as templates that help adapt the work products to meet specific project needs. Engineering teams can generate project-specific artifacts, including traceability matrices covering requirements, models, and generated code. Project- and product-specific artifacts can be combined to produce a complete ISO 26262 tool qualification package for embedded system certification. Certificates and assessment reports from the certification authority TÜV SÜD are included in the kit for the supported products and standards.
