I've tried simple plot function on my computer.
x=(-pi):pi/40:pi;
y=x.*sin(3*x.^2).*exp(-x.^2/4);
plot(x,y)
but matlab returns this answer to me
Error using gcf
uIcontrolfontunits is an invalid class name
Error in newplot (line 60)
fig = gcf;
Error in deneme (line 3)
plot(x,y)
I could not find an answer for this problem.
I'm using ubuntu 14.04.4 with Matlab R2014b Intel i5 & GTX540m Sony Vaio

I had that problem too. It happens due to Turkish locale settings in GNU/Linux systems. To fix it, you should start Matlab with English locale environment variables, like this:
LANG=en_US.UTF-8 LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 ./matlab
That fixed the problem for me. (Using R2014b on Ubuntu 14.04 AMD64.)
